CommitteesThe Association is made up of several committees that help forward the advocacy and best practices for managing law enforcement records and property and evidence. These committees bring subject-matter expertise, share recommendations, and focus on specific areas that support the Association’s mission. Committees meet as needed, as determined by the President, the Committee Chairperson, or a majority of committee members. Committee Chairpersons attend Executive Board meetings in an advisory role and do not vote on Association business. Bylaws Committee: This committee will make and evaluate suggestions for amendments or revisions of each of the articles and submit same to the Executive Board for consideration and approval. The Bylaws Committee is responsible for the distribution of the approved proposed changes to the membership of LEIRA not less than 30 days prior to the next general business meeting of the Association. In addition, the Committee shall report to the membership of the Association during the general business meeting of the biannual conference, and to maintain and amend as necessary the original bylaws document. Legislative Committee: This committee shall work with the Liaison Officer (Ex-Officio) in making recommendations to and receiving input from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) on information and records systems related to legislation; receive proposed legislation that is pertinent to the Association; provide a source of information to the Association members on matters of legislation; and to coordinate the efforts of the Association with the Legislative Liaison Committee of WASPC in its attempts to influence the course of legislation pertaining to criminal justice information and records management. Proposals to amend pending or existing statues, or for new legislation, will be presented to the WASPC Legislative Liaison Committee for their concurrence and for presentation to the Legislature. Membership Committee: This committee will maintain a current mailing list of all LEIRA members. The committee is responsible for sending invoices to agencies each year and following up with agencies who fail to renew membership promptly. The committee is also responsible for regular and current updates to the official membership roster on the LEIRA website. At least once each year, an effort will be made to contact non-member agencies to encourage membership. Training Committee: This committee is responsible for supporting the Association’s training and professional development efforts. The committee coordinates relevant training opportunities, develops and submits training agendas for review by the Executive Board, and assists with the coordination of training documentation for attendees. In addition, the committee maintains records of all Association-sponsored trainings to ensure accurate documentation and continuity.
